The "I don’t know retreat" is Boxie van Boxtel's journey to disconnect from materialism and plans, embracing spontaneity and creativity to explore freedom, inner discovery, and meaningful connections with others.

The "I don’t know retreat," created by Dutch artist Boxie van Boxtel, is a journey of self-discovery through disconnection from materialism and structured life. By giving up all possessions and his studio, Boxie aims to experience true freedom and see how this detachment impacts his creativity and connections with others. He plans to travel without a set destination, exchanging art and murals for shelter, while embracing spontaneity and inner exploration. The retreat encourages living in the present and highlights the value of creativity, connection, and freedom beyond material attachments.

About Boxie van Boxtel:

Boxie van Boxtel, a Dutch artist known for his accessible and childlike visual language, has embarked on a profound new journey called the "I don’t know retreat." As of today, Boxie has disconnected from material possessions and formal studio life to explore what it truly means to live without attachments or predetermined plans. His goal is to understand whether it's possible to say goodbye to everything and still find deeper connections, creativity, and freedom.

Inspired by holistic retreats and personal reflections, Boxie has chosen to abandon stability and materialism, including his studio and art collection. His journey begins in Haarlem, with no fixed destination, as he travels where his intuition leads. The essence of this retreat is to discover how letting go of possessions can open space for connection and the creation of beauty in the world.

Boxie's approach to this journey blends art and life. He plans to live by exchanging his artwork or creative services, including painting murals in people's homes across the Netherlands. His unique "price philosophy" allows buyers to collaborate with him on the price of his art, ensuring accessibility and a deeper emotional connection.

“I want to experience real freedom from anything and anyone.”

Projects:

  • Boxie offers to create free murals in people’s homes in exchange for shelter. This unique exchange fosters connection, as he leaves behind personalized art while immersing in diverse environments and communities.

  • The Boxie Benz auction involves selling Boxie van Boxtel's car, creatively customized with his signature art. Proceeds support his journey and philosophy of freedom, detachment, and making art accessible to all.

  • Boxie’s price philosophy allows buyers to set the price of his artwork through an emotional connection, making art accessible to all and fostering deeper, more personal exchanges between artist and buyer.
